Goodbye June, hello July! It’s time to celebrate this month’s birthdays with the July birthstone – rubies! If you were born in July you are lucky to get the breathtakingly beautiful ruby as your birthstone. This is a highly valuable red gemstone.
“She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.”
The ruby has ancient roots. In the Bible rubies are compared to a good woman who is precious to God. The gorgeous deep red of the ruby is revealed in it’s name. The Latin word ruber translates to red. It’s a favorite of those in power and those in love. This is a powerful birthstone that’s full of passion.
One celebrity who loves rubys is American singer, songwriter, fashion designer, actress, and reality television personality Jessica Simpson. She was born on July 10th and so her birthstone is the ruby. Her husband Eric Johnson (former NFL star) proposed with a 5-carat ruby ring that by two pear-shaped dazzling diamonds. The cost of the ring is estimated to be close to $200,000.
Her sister Ashlee Simpson also loves rubies and sported a 5-carat marquise-cut red ruby and diamond encrusted engagement ring. It has a more vintage look. They were both designed by jeweler Neil Lane. These ladies love the non-traditional and unique wedding rings. Look how Ashlee paired her ring with We found a lookalike ring on eBay here.
